Apple has announced an updated version of MacBook Air, the world's most beloved notebook, with faster performance, the new Magic Keyboard, double the storage space, and an even more affordable price: €1229, and even less for Education customers. The new MacBook Air has a CPU up to twice as fast and offers graphics performance up to 80% snappier, allowing customers to breeze through everyday activities and enjoy the best games. Now with 256GB of storage in the base configuration, MacBook Air has room for even more movies, photos, and files. Plus, it features a brilliant 13" Retina display that offers bright images and ultra-sharp text, Touch ID for convenient logins and secure online shopping, a spacious trackpad, an all-day battery, and the power of macOS Catalina. It's the best MacBook Air ever made.
“From students and first-time computer buyers to customers looking for a newer model, everyone loves the Mac, and the MacBook Air in particular. We've radically upgraded it with performance up to twice as fast, the new Magic Keyboard, and double the storage at an even more affordable price of €1229, and even less for Education customers,” said Tom Boger, Senior Director of Mac and iPad Product Marketing at Apple. “With its stunning, slim and lightweight design, a brilliant Retina display, an all-day battery, and the power and ease of use of macOS, MacBook Air is the best consumer notebook in the world.”
Faster performance for everyday activities
For the first time with quad-core processors, MacBook Air is now even faster in everyday activities such as organizing photos, creating presentations, and editing videos. It features the latest 10th generation Intel Core processors, up to 1.2GHz Core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz, and offers performance up to twice as snappy as the previous generation. And with the Intel Iris Plus Graphics GPU, MacBook Air now delivers graphics performance up to 80% faster, for gaming and activities like video editing.
New Magic Keyboard
Now MacBook Air features the new Magic Keyboard, first introduced on the 16" MacBook Pro. The redesigned scissor mechanism keys with 1mm travel are comfortable and stable, and the inverted-T arrow keys are easier to locate even without looking at the keyboard. MacBook Air has an unmistakable unibody shell made entirely from recycled aluminum and is available in three colors: gold, silver, and space gray. The 13" Retina display encompasses over 4 million pixels and supports millions of colors: customers can read emails, watch movies, and edit photos with ultra-sharp text and even more realistic images.
Double the storage space
In the base configuration, MacBook Air now offers 256GB of storage, double the previous generation, to hold more movies, photos, and files. Those who need even more space can choose an SSD up to 2TB, twice the maximum capacity supported by the previous model.
Integrated security and privacy
MacBook Air features the Apple T2 Security chip, the second generation processor designed by Apple, which verifies that the software loaded at system startup has not been tampered with and provides real-time encryption of all data stored on the SSD. This way, MacBook Air and any Mac with the T2 chip can provide the most secure boot process and storage system on any notebook. The T2 chip also protects Touch ID information: so when customers unlock the Mac, enter a password online, or make purchases on the web, their information remains secure.
Other features
Three-microphone array for clearer voice capture during FaceTime calls with friends and family.
Industry-leading Force Touch trackpad, with precise cursor control and Multi-Touch navigation.
Thunderbolt 3 ports supporting data transfer, charging, and video output on a single connector.
Support for an external monitor up to 6K, a major upgrade for MacBook Air.
Enhanced speakers for expansive stereo sound, ideal for enjoying Apple TV+ content or playing Apple Arcade games.
macOS Catalina
Every new MacBook Air comes with macOS Catalina, the latest version of the world's most advanced desktop operating system. macOS has always been at the heart of the Mac experience, and with apps like Safari, Mail, Photos, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, customers have powerful tools to do extraordinary things. Additionally, macOS makes MacBook Air the perfect companion for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch: thanks to integrated Continuity features, users can make and receive calls without picking up the iPhone, automatically unlock their Mac with Apple Watch, as well as copy and paste images, videos, and text directly from iPhone or iPad to a nearby Mac; and in macOS Catalina, they can even expand the workspace on Mac with an iPad and Sidecar. Security features further safeguard user information, while Voice Control allows complete control of the Mac using only voice.
Upcoming updates to Pages, Numbers, and Keynote offer a variety of new features aimed at unleashing creativity, improving productivity, and enhancing collaboration. A wide selection of new stunning templates in Pages and Keynote provides users with assistance in creating beautiful documents, and for the first time in iWork, users can add a drop cap to highlight a paragraph with a large and decorative initial letter. Collaboration will become easier than ever with support for iCloud folder sharing and the ability to edit shared documents even offline.
Apple Services
Customers can also enjoy Apple services directly on MacBook Air, which includes the new versions of Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple TV, in addition to Apple News. Apple Arcade is available via the Mac App Store and offers Mac customers over 100 new exclusive games. And for a limited time, the purchase of a new MacBook Air includes one year of free Apple TV+ on the Apple TV app.4
Mac mini also got an update
Customers love Mac mini and its versatility: it's a desktop computer, but it can also become a hub to store the entire family's music and movies, and even a compilation server for Xcode. In the standard configuration, Mac mini now offers double the storage space. The €949 configuration comes with a 256GB unit, while the €1299 version includes 512GB of storage. And every Mac mini is made with 100% recycled aluminum.
